Making an indie Sci-fi short film

Hi indietalk,

I made this user back in 2010 when I was starting my first short film and wanted to gain some knowledge about the craft as I never even had a camera, not to mention shooting something. After an awesome thread where you guys helped me get my shopping list...

...I managed to make "Urban"

(vimeo doesn't load for me now, but from here it works : http://what-we-make.com/ )

...a short film that I submitted at a Romanian contest.
I managed to get 3rd place, also the short got over 150k views on Vimeo and YT. Great!

But that was that. I made something that had a general positive critique, got even offers for work in Romania, but I turned them all down as I didn't want to shoot promos or music clips because I already had a great job as a digital artist (and still do) and moved on.

But now, I would like to make something again. I didn't make another short because I didn't want to make something just to film something. I prefer to create something only when I feel that the end result will be amazing or that I have a chance of making it .

So I want to make in 2013 two SCI-FI short films that will be used in an attempt on a complex online campaign to get funds. The two clips are actually 2 moments from a complete feature film, one represents the beginning of the film, and the second is a part later from the film, when some interesting things happen.

Now, a SCI-FI short film (both clips summing up to ~ 25 minutes of film, if not more) that don't make the viewer cringe at the bad design, costumes, greenscreen, etc is hard to make. I know. But I just feel I have to do it.

I have the scripts almost locked and the design is in the making. I even have a (VERY small) budget that will make it into costumes and making a set. Now I am waiting for some art to start making the storyboards and animatic. As I am a 3D digital artist at the core it will come easy to design shots in 3D with virtual cameras.

Anyway, I want this thread to be just an opening to a big project, a "Greetings" after a long time and a "Help" for future problems that I will surely have.

PS: If we could start by giving me some Sci fi shortfilms/feature films that were made with low budged and looked decent, that would be great for inspiration and motivation. I may know some, but never bad to ask.
