Low budget movie, recovered cost first day

Think Like a Man" was produced for about $13 million and took in nearly that much on opening day Friday alone, with business getting even better on Saturday. Sony executives had figured the movie might pull in about $17 million for the whole weekend.

Good on them! Well budgeted film. Doesn't like like my cup of tea, but known actors, based on a book, general level appeal (looks romantic-comedy-ish, right), looks like they knocked it out of the park. Add in marketing budget, and they're still making bank with this one. Always good to see someone succeed.

Now, that said, that just reinforces the fact that most of us are not even in the same league. 13 million is LOW BUDGET? Relatively speaking, it is, but imagine if anyone around here had that sort of scratch on a project. I'd guess a good chunk of that is going towards securing the cast, and it doesn't look like an explosion/CG/stunt-filled film, so you save a lot there. I'm sure folks around here, used to penny pinching and clever tricks, could stretch that 13 million into a damn fine film.

That's the mark of a true filmmaker. Use what you have and if you can make something big for that much, imagine what you can do if you had an actual budget.
