Looking for a writer...

Hello everyone!
My name is Will Sheehan and I am a 17 year old high school student from Virginia. I have some experience making short films and this summer I will be taking on my biggest challenge yet, a 5 minute short for the Virginia Film Festival's High School Director Competition. I just have one problem... I'm not a great writer. I am in need of ideas for my short and anyone who would be willing to help me with the writing process would get a writer credit.

Some things that might help you get started:
-I live in a suburban rural area on a farm
-I have access to my families' 450 acre farm next to the blue ridge mountains, which includes farmland and forest land too (possible setting), as well as a creek which is on the property
-I would like to keep the cast minimal, and the story as simple (yet intriguing) as possible, since I would like to put most of my time and money into making the film visually striking and beautiful
-I am competent at After Effects, but I do consider myself rather old school and would like to keep out special effects.
-A friend of mine is a composer and has agreed to write the score for the film.

If you have any questions that you would like to ask outside of the forum my email is will.j.sheehan@gmail.com

Thanks!
Will

Suggestion...find a movie you like...no a movie you love. A movie you think you could pull off w/ your resources. Break it down into whatever bits you want. One scene at a time even. Film a few minutes and make a short

Break down each scene. Storyboard the shots.. Let's say the scene has a question, a major admission or whatever. Next they talk about their lives together. Enter the Antagonist who challenges the Protagonist... Write your own damn movie ! Copy hell, rip off a story you love and make it fit what you have at hand. Tell the story visually.

A fellow Virginian! Hello! I didn't know that there were that many VA filmmakers, but this forum has shown me different.

When you say that you're interested in Mystery and Thriller, are you implying that you'd be into doing a Hitchcockian film?

Do you simply want ideas, or a script? I can offer ideas, and then go ahead and write the script based on the idea you choose to use. It would probably only take me a day or two to pump out a rough draft of 3-4 page film.

I can PM you a few Hitchockian/Hardboiled Mystery/Thriller/Slice-of-Life loglines, if you wish. I've got a few that would only require 2-3 people in front of the camera, and some with only one.

And I'd also qualify as a contender for the contest, given that I live in VA and I'm an upcoming 10th grader. I've been published (short stories) a few times, and I've been dabbling in screenwriting for a while now.

That would be fantastic! When I say those genres I just am looking for something interesting... anything that can really be worth watching, not just some artsy film competition bullshit, but something that really grabs you. Also, if you would like to shoot me a few ideas then we could work together on the details and continue our conversation over email as to the specifics of the film. As for characters I would say no more than 3, but other than that, go for it!

One other thing to keep in mind... due to my equipment I would like to set the film during the day time, because generally the darker it is you are shooting, the harder it is to get good quality.

I'll do it. I'm working on a feature right now that I wrote and am directing and doing all the effects for. I've had a few years of writing experience, the one I'm working on now is my second feature I've written, first I've produced. My main thing is action and war. I'm big on military, planning on Joining the Army after college and trying out for the Green Berets, and had plenty of family in the army so I know the lingo.

Just hit me up if you want some help dude:

I'm guessing you have not written a "real" script before. Dont worry about that. A "script" is a formatting thing (mostly). What you want is to write a good short story.

Process?

Pick your genre
Pick you period (contemporary, historical, future)
Pick your time window, how long the story takes to do its thing. (An hour, a day, a month, a lifetime,....)

Come up with a "log line" that sparks your interest.

Here, let me try..

Genre: Thriller\Action
Period: Contemporary
Time: 24 hours

Log Line: Will Jack make it to the end zone and deliver the nuclear arming device before his best friends are murdered by the terrorist who shot down Air Force One to get at the famous "football" he now holds in his hands or will he run another play and deny the enemy the prize?

Silly, maybe, but you need to start somewhere...
