Looking for a Cheap Camera for Infie Filmmaking

I'm wondering if there's a camera out there for around $1,000 that records to a card or whatever (not mini-dv tapes). Also, I need it to have a jack to plug in my shotgun mic. (I don't care about HD, one way or the other.) Does anything like this exist in the 1,000 range? THANK YOU VERY MUCH for your opinions on this...........
