Location? Your thoughts

Might as well audition this location to get some valuable feedback and first impressions. An audio track was added to give the feel of the type of scene I think could be shot here. The location is owned by the public and permits can be obtained.

If you've got a good story that can be set there, I think it's a great location. It's got a lot of nice colors and elements that will help your mise en scene a lot with basically no production design at all.

Locations like these are an awesome thing to have in your pocket. :)

It could be brilliant for one film and awful for another… it's hard to make a judgment without knowing what's supposed to be happening there and how it should make the audience feel.

It's certainly pleasant to look at, but as Ernest says it could get a bit samey. My main concern for shooting an action film there would be that the pathway doesn't give you a huge amount of flexibility or possibilities for creativity when staging a scene.

Thanks for the input, folks! I was taking a walk through this place a couple of weeks ago and I really liked its "look." I figured I'd shoot a little and keep it on file for future reference - it's not associated with a current or future project.

Oh, and I agree with Ernest and chilipie on the sameness...it would definitely have to be limited to a scene. Besides, the land piranhas will get you if you step off the boardwalk. ;)

Is this open to the public or just owned by the public?

Personally I would shy away from anything where the public have access as it can get messy if you try and prevent people from entering your shoot area, and even worse if you get home and find that in key takes people have slipped in the distance. But if you can rope out the civilians then it looks like a nice place.

It's open to the public, but not heavily utilized. It's a loop, so there is only one way in/out. With proper permits, it could be effectively "rented" for a few hours. Every once in a while they'll have a wedding there and the trail is closed with a posted reopening time.

looks cool.
If you get a permit can you go OFF of the boardwalks?

The thing about action sequences is that the location will determine what happens. If I was in a fight for my life, the first thing I would do is get OFF of those boardwalks.

If you must stay on them, then you have a great location for a "low speed high tension" foot chase scene. You know, the type where one guy is following another, and the target gets wise and tries to give the slip but neither want to call attention to the action....

Unfortunately, you can't go off the boardwalk. It's there to protect the vegatation. Some parallel shots are possible in locations where the boardwalk switches back on itself, so the shot selection is still limited, but doable. I don't know how or if I'll ever use this place, but it would be helpful to write to the location or at least have it in mind if there ever comes a need.

yeah with the boardwalks requirement, the only thing that makes sense is a walking cat and mouse chase, otherwise, anybody being chased there would just jump over the rail and book it into the jungle...

wait, could be a chase between wheelchair bound hitmen.. that could be very funny..
