lighting lights ,camera....

Hi everyone!

I have a noobish question!

Is the intensity of lights, when lighting, dependent on the distance the light is being cast from?

Thanks :)

For example: Im using 500 W halogen worklight as key with added barndoors and a dimmer and I lower it down a bit since the light is like 2 feet away from me. in a room and using another 500 watt worklight with a dimmer or I just bounce the light off the wall for background light. The key light is still brighter (cause im the subject) than the background for a 3d feel and DOF.

Is that closely good? I mean, the whole connection with wattage and distance? The higher the wattage, the further away the subject should be? In that sort of manner? :)

I REALLY HOPE ANY OF THIS MAKES SENSE :D Sorry im in a rush.

Yes, position of the lights definitely changes the brightness.

Your set up could work, test the dimmer though. Not every gas bulb can dim. Also, as lights dim they change color, keep that in mind too.
