lighting Lighting advice?

Hello, I have just joined indietalk hoping to get some help. I am an 18 year old aspiring filmmaker from Australia. I am hoping to study a film course next year, but in the meantime, am finishing a 40min film I started last year in my final year of high school. Most of this film was trial and error, but wasn't finished as I started a music course at uni this year (but will transfer to film at the end of this year). I only have a couple of scenes of this film to finish and would like to do it properly so I have something decent to submit for my university application.

I some help/advice on what to with the lighting for a particular scene. This scene is going to be filmed on a "no through road" street which is meant to look like it is at night. I NOW have learnt that I will need some form of lighting to effectivlely get decent looking shots, lol. I was hoping to use the existing streetlights to create areas of white/blue light, but upon inspection, there is only one orange street light down the end of the street!! Anyway, the actress will be walking a dog along one side, and then will have to chase the dog down the rest of the street after it breaks away from her holding the leash.

I am looking to buy some lights, but am not really sure what I will need. It is too large an area to light to give the effect of moonlight, so I think I will have to make my own streetlights effects, having the lights light individual areas, with dark shadows in between.

What lights would I need to pull this off? Redheads with gels? I think they will have to be mounted on tripods in the middle of the street, allowing enough room for a dolly, and then the actress on the road. It will only be filmed from one side, looking at the houses the side the actress is walking down.

Can anyone offer any advice?
Thanks!

I'm with Murdock. Hello and welcome!

I'm also with GA, that's a huge lighting project requiring thousands or go with what you have, it's real life. Test it and see what it looks like.
