editing Letterbox

Using a dvx100 you can add letterbox, however in the edit when colour correcting it also tints the black of the letterbox. Is crop the solution?

Do they make viewfinders with markings for different aspect ratios like for film cameras? Just wondering. It would suck to shoot blindly.

My XL1s has 16:9 guides that I can turn on or off. But that's about it.

If you're using an external monitor, or a flip out LCD, you can add a piece of saran wrap to it and draw framing lines on that... or clear scotch tape, or whatever.

But, actually, when I mentioned mask it, I was talking about masking off the black areas in your editor so that the changes you make only effect the video area.
