Introducing our project - SUMMER OF '76

Hmm.

Have you hired a sound designer yet? A dated movie like this requires the utmost detail in sounds and ambiences from that era.. Just a heads up.

Thanks for the heads up. I did get some quotes for sound mix when I was figuring out all my below the line costs. Nothing concrete at this point. You're welcome to submit a quote. You are spot on about the sound details of that era. I'm aiming for both great sound and music soundtrack.

Tom

Hi Tom,

I'd give a quote but I'm pretty booked as it is. What timeframe are you thinking of?

I would basically take it and make it (if this is what was needed) as 70s as I could get. It would definitely be hi-fi, but not TOO hi-fi - it's own grittiness which would hopefully fit with the color-grading or grittiness of the film effect you would put on the finished film. I'd record ambiences and environmental flavor around California though mics made in the 70s (I have quite a few). I'd also run the mix through a tape emulator or through a tape machine much like how they mixed the film "We Own the Night" at Skywalker Sound - the whole movie was sent through a reel-to-reel amp circuit so it sounded like it was from that era - the saturated 70s film soundtrack style... Just a thought.

Cool advice. But I wouldn't get too carried away in making it sound completely authentic. Movies are hyper-reality, so you'd want to make it almost more 70's sounding. Does that make sense? I feel like there's more nuance to it, but I can't find the right words...
