Indie rates for Philly, low budget, need info

Hi
I need to estimate a low budget, 600K, indie film to be shot in Philly. The company is a SAG signatory, so I need to use SAG actors. Do I need to go union and bid Teamsters, IA, and 600 for the crew? Does anyone know local rates? What about mixing crews is that a crazy idea? Anyone with any knowledge of shooting and thoughts on this would be helpful.
thanks,
NYC Girl

Does the SAG signatory company have an agreement with Teamsters
and IA?

The unions will not allow non-union people working on a union set.
However, many union members are willing to work on a non-union
set.

The rates in Philly are not much different than in NYC. You can use
the NYC rates you already know for your budget. The prodCo may
even be able to negotiate a better rate in Philly.

No, the company doesn't have an agreement with anyone yet. With this budget I will be able to shoot with a union crew.

SAG is fine with a non union crew, correct?
What about 829?

You can be either a union show or a non union show - not both. You
cannot use union scenics and everyone else non union. The guilds
have different requirements than the unions - the unions will not
allow non union members working on a union show.

Since you will be using union crews the minimum rates are already
set so that should help local rates in Philly.

Sag and crews

Hi

Are you saying if I go SAG I must use union shoot crews?

I understand that I need to pick either go union or non union and not mix crews.

As for teamster drivers, I can use them on a non=union crew ,can't I. Or is that where I am off?

I appreciate your help I need to sort this out.

The guilds work differently than the unions. You can use guild

Teamsters are a union, not a guild. Unions will not allow their
members to work on non union sets. Teamsters will not work with
non union crews.

The rates in Philly are not much different than in NYC. You can
use the NYC rates you already know for your budget. I'm thinking
PA's would be the same as NYC. Maybe $50 less.

You said, “With this budget I will be able to shoot with a union
crew.” In that case the unions have set minimums so you will just
use their already established rates.

Philly low budget Indie

Thanks, I did say with this budget I'll be able to shoot with a union crew but I won't. Seriously, if the teamsters were to see this budget they wouldn't want any part of it.

So SAG, nonunion, it will be. NYC rates will cover me. Can I do ten hour days?

NYC Girl

In my experience I have found that to be true. A 600k budget
will only support a full union crew for 10 or so days - depending
on the show. I was a little surprised.

You can plan 10 hour days as your base. Most shoots are 12 so
include the OT into you budget. If your First actually stays at 10's
you save money.
