If a director asks if you believe in doing nude scenes, what should I say?

I am auditioning for a movie and received an email asking if I would do nudity and sex scenes for a film. For me it would depend on the script and the material, but I don't want to say anything that will have them turn me down for a chance to be in the movie. What's the best thing to say? I read my audition lines and it does not give me any ideas on what the context of a sex scene would be in this plot, so I have no idea what the scenario would be.

What should I say?

Thanks.

I just might be the only Indietalker lucky enough to have seen it in full! :P

Watching H44 getting it Deliverance style by a hillbilly is lucky?

What is with all this "hell no" stuff.

I have directed movies with full frontal nudity both male and female. It's all about finding the right person who is willing to do it, and when they get there to make them feel comfortable.

Having crew members who are mature and of mixed sexes and ages is very important. You are going to come off as a real unprofessional creep if you are trying to film a naked girl and you have a crew of nothing but geeky horny men.

Are you directing porno stuff? I see no point in an indie having full frontal nudity. If you had a daughter or son would you be happy for them to do those scenes?

What a childish comment... Just because there is nudity in a movie doesn't mean I'm directing porn. Go pick out some of your favorite movies and I bet that plenty of them have nudity at some point. So don't feed me that stupid "daughter or son" kinda line.

There are several shows on HBO that have won or were nominated for Emmies that have nudity. If someone will not be comfortable with their grandchildren seeing a scene, don't do it because what you do can crop up 40 years or more in the future.

There are a million reasons why a director might want full nudity, without it being even slightly pornographic in nature.

Heck, maybe they just want a wide-angle shot, because it will look good, and in the story one of the people is naked. I'd say cinematography is important reason enough!

Boys have a penis, girls have a vagina, why is that such a big deal?

My partner's an actress and she's told me so many stories of friends of hers who have been suddenly hit with 'revised' scripts that require nudity. None of her friends wanted to do it - some did but felt forced into it, a few refused and were either replaced or the director backed down (for fear of losing them mid-shoot).

Most actors and actresses are desperate for those IMDB credits. There are people out there who would and do take major advantage of that.

Sure there are a few artistic movies and good movies that have full frontal nudity but they're the exception.

And why can't you ask yourself - 'would I be comfortable asking my son or daughter to do this?'. If you're uncomfortable with that question, that's your answer.

That's not always the case.

So because it's an indie it shouldn't have some form of nudity? Let's say the exact same film had been done by a big studio, would they be okay to show some nudity?

Why can't we act like adults and take each script/scene/situation as they come? If the nudity scene has no merit and it's only their for the sole purpose of showing nudity, you should be able to realize that and decide what is best for you as a person and for your career.
