I think I can make it, if I can just Write something.

I think I can Make My untitled-for-the moment "Raise the Britannic" film. For around 10,000.00 if If I go with the
made-for-cable movie format, keep all the action and drama INDOORS and with limited locations. And seek out crowd funding, and possibly collaberate to make a fake trailer/ short film thats related to the movie to get my directing kinks out.

Model ships, both waterbourne and space based are pretty cheap now, and Programmes like Adobe after-effects are pretty cheap. and so are DSLR cameras and Music production software and MIDI controllers than they were even four years ago.

I was looking at the lower level SONY NEX series. Cubase/FL studio for the music software.

I also would need a good Color correction software too. and adobe after effects.

I used to build miniature dioramas when i was a few years younger and they were pretty good, and I wanted to see my full potential so I came up with this movie as a way to not only be able to be a director, but also to dabble in practical effects!

I am going in a Rear window/Disturbia meets the Goonies (with a homage tostar wars) thrown in. I also am working on better characters. What really killed the first script and several other attempts was the charachters sucked. And I wanted to get ALL of the technical details right, Physics, Amount of lift needed. Etc. So much so. the story became an old mans movie. Slow boring, no fun at all.

The story I came up with revolves around an element that came from a meteorite that came from mars, When compressed or heated this element can be used as an alternative to nuclear power and even be able to create light projectors and swords. 90 or so years ago the meteor landed in western England and the british ggovernment found out the elements full potential. To keep it safe they transported it on a hospital ship hoping to sneak it to the US for safe keeping after the ship made its planned trip to Greece and back.
And of course, due to fate it never happened.

Cut to today, 23 year old Jessica Ride lives with her mom after being booted from a university, she notices strang activity from her new neighbors, and strange loud booming sounds and green glowing lights from next door. she becomes curious, and soon she is caught up in a strange situation involving a secret failed martian terraforming project, and a new breed of terrorist, with a dangerous new weapon.

That is the problem I see with most scripts I read. Uninteresting
characters. Good idea, good story, proper format, ALL the technical
details right - but characters I just don’t care about.

Your story is fine - the standard for many good sci-fi movies. The
“cut to today” reminds me of “Invaders From Mars”.

With your interest in miniatures, the easy, inexpensive access to
visual efx software and your personal passion and creativity you
could make a fine movie for your budget. You now know than no
matter how good your technical details are, how good your idea
is or what equipment you use if you do not have characters that
are compelling and interesting you do not have a movie people
will want to watch.

I dont have a budget yet, but I hope to collaborate on a short with local filmakers it I can, I wanted the movie to have a quirky, vibe, if i go the More fantastical direction. Sort of a 80's esque nior comedy thriller.

I also have a more serious thriller version, in the style of cronenberg, more psychological, same mcguffin different setting & tone.

Good luck and it sounds great! However, if you are going for a Sony NEX series camera, I would strongly suggest buying a used VG10. The reason is you will get a significantly better camera more attuned to movie making as when the VG20 etc... came out, VG10 used prices plummetted. You will get a better camera for less than the price of a new, lower-grade NEX.

In addition, the Sigma 30mm is an essential lens and if you bought a VG10, you could sell the stock and buy a couple of cheaper primes.

Out of sheer curiosity, I would be really interested in seeing samples of your model work and am really curious as to how realistic this stuff looks.

I wish i could show you my modelwork, but over the course of several moves it got lost, including a videotape I had of it. Money is tight now, but I am sure to get back into modelmaking soon. It all started with Model trains,
and touching up kits to fit what I wanted..

hey RaymondLeggs!

You have everything you need
to create the film,
go for it,

i agree with directorik
a great script makes a big difference,
(hard work in preproduction creates a big difference
at the ends - and makes costs managable)

how you present your script
your style will make a difference

You will rock
All the best
