i just emailed some producers.

yes i did.

i have a short film screenplay that i truly do want and wish to produce, and instead of waiting around for god knows what to happen, i found some local(South Australian) producers and emailed them.
i kinda introduced myself and my goals in a few sentences then wrote a short description about my script.
finishing with a nice
'thankyou for your time'
i also attached a copy of the script.

i figured i got nothing to lose? yeah?

a few hours have passed since i sent them and now i'm kinda thinking, 'oh god what did you do you fool? theyre gonna think youre stupid'

but i'm sure thats just me being anxious and nervous.

what i would like to know if this is an appropriate way to make contact and/or to get possible interest and motion into a otherwise stationary project? not that i'm holding my breath for anything like that, hell i'd be grateful just for a reply

thanks :)

It could be diff over there but if you were to do that over here in the US you have a 95% chance of not hearing from them because you did not go thru the right chans. That is unless you're going to the blow budget guys.

Finding a producer should not be too hard, you could probably find one on here. What are you so worried about? Is it a larger scale production that you don't want to produce yourself?

Finding investors will be the hard part. Unless you have money in place. Nobody invests in short films so don't expect the producer to help in that regard.

Sometimes the "what have got to lose?" question and
method isn't the best one.

Being polite and writing "Thank you" doesn't hurt. But
knowing how the producers work is what really helps.
I haven't seen the letter or the script, so I am speaking
only in general. I'm sure your letter was extremely
professional, to the point and offered these producers an
excellent opportunity to be involved in a compelling project.
But based on what you wrote here I suspect it may have
been a little less professional than it should have been.
I don't think any producer will think you are stupid. But
they may think you are unprepared.

As indietalk said, it's easy to find a producer. It's really
difficult to have a project that is worth spending money
on. I get the impression what you are looking for is
someone to finance or find the financing for your short
film. I hope you contacted local producers who find financing
for short films and not just producer who produces movies
for a fee.

But this will be a great learning experience. I'f you find a
producer you will know this method works. If you don't you
can change and improve your method.

I wish you the best of luck! Let us know how it works out, okay?
