How would you . . . ?

Re-enforce a stunt dummy's foam head to take lots of physical abuse and punishment?

I spent a month brain storming this one and I think I have the perfect solution. I will have to wait a week or so get get my solution. But, its on its way.

I'm curious to hear any of your ideas of how you would fortiffy a stunt dummy's head where it can take kicks on the head, blows all around the head, and to be able to be pile drived into the ground like a wrestler would do to another wrestler without the foam head breaking.

Let's hear your ideas.

What is your solution?

I'd suggest not going with the foam head. What is wrong with a rubber/plastic based stunt dummy?

Be it they are proven to take severe punishment, both in the MMA, Wrestling, and Boxing, it's perculiar to opt for foam, which is prone to tearing, and will be a tough ask replicating the impact/weight of a human skull.

My solution is I just ordered an armor helmet made of steel that I will layer over with soft padding and duck tape over that and get a big enough silver demon hunter mask to cover over all of that. That way the foam head is protected as well as the casts hands to punch it in the face. It will be strong enough to get kicked in the head with a boot heel and pile drived head first into the ground. I went to Ebay to get an armor helmet at a discounted price. The item will be shipped out next week.

Is there to be direct contact via strikes, from actor/or stuntman?

Obviously you can't pack it with padding, otherwise the head is going to be swelled, but be careful nobody breaks a wrist. It's very, very easy, with solids, especially steel, (Hence why every MMA fighters gloves are checked for compact weights, or injections) hopefully the extra foam layer will suffice.

The foam head is already attached to the body of the stunt dummy.

So, I'm building around it.

The actresses playing cyborgs attacking the stunt dummy will be padded with their battle armor as well. Their vambraces are as thick and hard as baseball batting helmets. They are also wearing gloves. Their combat boots have 4 and 1/2 thick rubber souls with protection for their toes.

If you add that much weight to the head, I think you run the risk of the foam neck tearing from the weight of the steel and foam skull. Also, the head will need support, or it probably won't do anything except fall to one side, front, or back.

Good points from Steve and PaperTwinProductions.

Obviously, the body weight will be unbalanced and the head will be swollen up. But, the stunt dummy is for an ET, not a human character. So, the proportions can be distorted. The silver demon hunter stunt dummy will replace actors for shots that are of risk to personal injury for them. The stunt dummy is their fall guy. The scenes it will be used for, it will be lifted up by cyborgs, thrown around by cyborgs, kicked in the head hard enough to smash the head of the alien. So, physical contact is necessary, getting its throat crushed from the weight of the cyborg stepping on it. In the story, the cyborgs weight is 800 pounds without their battle armor because of all of the metal and machinary inside of them. Their armor adds another 200 pounds of weight. With their armor, they are built to fight battle tanks and walk through land mines in the battle field. And, they have robotic strength. So, when they hit, they hit very hard.

Back to the stunt dummy, I will be putting protective foam around the neck of the stunt dummy. And, it will not be able to stand up on its' own. It's wire frame will not be strong enough to support the heavy head.

I will compensate for the actors playing the silver demon hunters with protective gear under their masks like the cyborgs will wear protective eyewear that looks like mirror sunglasses that works with the look of their Goth space age armor to protect their eyes from flying projectiles.

Here is stunt dummy #1 for the cyborgs that the cast and crew elected to name "Robotrix."

The skull is actually 2 masks put together one over the other and stuffed with air bags.

The silver demon hunter stunt dummy will be called "Mr. Sylver." I'll post photos when he's all together.

By the way, rubber souls are here too:

And, here is a close up on the new cyborg belts.
