How to TEST sound quality

All,
I have a potential inexpensive option for improving sound for us cheapskates. Id like to review and test it for others in my situation.

Unpacking the Nady DMP-2 (RETAIL $60), I was stuck by the build quality, this little guy looks pretty rugged, heavy too.

As I'm new to video sound, how should I test this device on the groups behalf?

What Im looking for is one or two setups, or scenes, that can be executed by one person, me, working alone. Any ideas?

Thanks

Depends on what camera and preamps you are using. Preamps and recorders can make a good mic sound horrible.

If I were testing it I would take it to different environments:

Inside a car,
Inside a bathroom,
Outside in a field with no echoes,
Outside on a street between buildings with a slap echo,
Indoors in a carpeted and somewhat anechoic room.

See what the rejection is, amplification and that it picks up a wide range of frequencies and is not susceptible to ambient noise.

Also use it with or without a windscreen - that makes quite a difference if you can do without one.
