Hey guys!

I'm new to IndieTalk. I've very excited, for one thing, to be a part of an awesome website where you're surrounded by people who are interested in the same thing as you are.
I'm relatively new to this "filmmaking" thing, but I've been interested since I was little.
I couldn't get in my school's film class due to scheduling difficulties, but I really do wish to make filmmaking my future.
Just one question: is there a "future" for people who wish to pursue this as a career? I know very people make it in the big light, but that's not what I'm looking for exactly. I would love to be a director, of different things such as TV, documentaries, and movies of course. But what are the chances of having it as a career and keeping up a persisting life?
Thank you.

Welcome!

Yes. There is a future for people who want to make movies for a living.
While it's true that very few people " make it in the big light" there are
many people making a living doing what they love. Every single TV show,
documentary and movie has a director. That means there are a lot of
directors working - directors whose names very few people know. I'm one
of them. You don't know my name, you've never heard of me, you probably
have never seen any of my work as a director - but I make a living doing
what I love.

I have no idea what the chances are - I don't know there is any calculation
that could give you a number - but the chances aren't what drives people
like me. You do what you love and you work hard at it. Every thing else is
just waiting.
