Here is what I THINK I want to do...

Do some practice interviews for a Documentary.

My seeking advice from this knowledgeable Forum is for the following items:

Basic camera should be: ???? Lenses ??? Tripod??? hand held???

Will have FC X as the Editing software...

Sound???

Not concerned about traveling, etc. Just the technical stuff. Budget for the equipment above is 2K...

It's the same question than before :/

Spend one third one the camera, one third on lights and one third on sound.

DSLR + One lens will be enough (Maybe a 35mm). Get a tripod with what's left.

For sound, you can get the same stuff you were advised before. A record and a mic. For an interview, you can either put a lavallier or have a C-stand to hold the shotgun if you're not planning on holding it.

For the lights, I'll let you google it but you shouldn't spend a shitload on it. 1/3 of the budget might be too much.

I’m glad you decided to come back, Jack. I know you didn’t like
the advice you got back in July. I hope you don’t feel so attacked
this time.

For practice a good basic camera would be the Panasonic X900m or
X920. You can also look at the Canon HF G20. They all have a fixed
lens so you won’t need to buy one. Manfrotto makes excellent tripods
- you will also need a Head. Look at the 055XPROB for legs and the
804RC2 Head. for a combo the MeFoto “Travel Tripod Kit” is quite
good. Might be a better choice to start with. For sound get a nice
shotgun mic - look at Sennheiser (MKE600) and Rode (NGT-2). You
will need an adaptor to plug into the camera, a mic cable and a boom
pole. For practice interviews you can get away with using a mic stand
instead of a boom pole. All should be above 2k. I notice you didn't
ask about lights...

So what have you been doing these last nine months since you asked
about equipment?

Thanx for the great advice!

Been slugging away at my jobs, getting out of crushing debts, and still going to school. Trying to learn as much as possible.

I am a Technical Dinosaur, and am so bad with some things that I would be too ashamed to mention specifics here. But I will become somewhat competent.

Hope this helps answering your great Q.

Get a t2i or t3i, either get a 50mm 1.8, or 1.4, samyang 14mm or tokina 11-16mm, then get a tascam dr-40, or dr-60D (60d might not be out yet) get a rode NTG-1, rode boom pole, and a rode blimp as an optional extra, get 4 cheap batteries, SD cards from amazon, that should about cover it.

Hope you have a computer...

Here's where I am at:

Got the Canon HF G20. Excellent quality, even a total newbie such as myself can see how wonderful this equipment is!

Buffalo External drive

Vanguard Tripod

64GB memory card.

iMac Book Pro

Came with iMovie.

going to get the sound worked on next.

Could not have done this without your guys' input!

Sincerely,
