Help?

Sorry, but life isn't as easy as saying "I want a camera" and then suddenly people will give you money. I see nothing but a selfish kid who doesn't want to pay for his own camera. You already say you're going to use $2000 of your own money. Buy a GH2, some lights and audio equipment, and shoot something that shows you have some talent. Show me a project worth donating to. Don't just stick your hand out and say "I'm too good to shoot on a less expensive camera."

Boy, you don't even know what to do with 4000 dollar camera!

Its like hooking up a high school nerd with jessica alba for a prom night date. Major Fail!

I'm sorry but this just does not work for me. See the reasons above.

Added to that you chose to go with IndieGoGo rather than Kickstarter which, for something like this where there isn't even a specific end product, is just a total no no for me.

I wish you success but I really don't think this is the way to go about your business.

SinEater - I'm not just some selfish kid asking for money. I'm not saying 'hey, I don't want to work, give me money so I can get a camera' I am working for it. I've just realized at this rate, I won't be able to get the camera as quickly as I had hoped (for a full length production) and I'm not saying I'm 'too good' for a less expensive camera. I see it as an investment in my future. I'm just trying to use resources that are put in front of me. I was hesitant about setting up a campaign for this... but I saw a different campaign of the same nature that was successful. So I decided, if it helps it helps, if it doesn't, oh well.

I've worked with the dvx and hvx cameras from my school. however, when I have free time to shoot my own stuff, which is on breaks - we're not allowed to check out gear. so I've made initiative to get my own gear. I decided on this camera because of its quality. I think I'm ready, no I know I'm ready for something of this caliber.

*I'm not complaining or trying to be over defensive or whatever - just trying to explain myself I suppose.

To be truthful, I didn't expect anything to come from this campaign. Just thought I would give it a try.

I have a part time job, I try to freelance myself as much as possible.. any other ideas on ways to generate funds for this camera?

I'm thinking you're going to have to do what most of
us had to do. I'm thinking this isn't the best place to
find money for s better camera - most of us here are,
like you, struggling to earn enough money for a better
camera or a piece of much needed equipment or the
money to feed a tiny cast and crew on our current movie.

It can't hurt to try. It might be better to hit up people
who aren't struggling with money for their own projects.

Or maybe help by donating to a project here...

Market your feature as a project to donate/invest in - rather than - begging for cash to buy toys to play with.

Sell people on what a fun time you'll show 'em on a date - not - your six pack abs.

It's not so much bait-and-switch as it is misdirection.

If I'm promoting for a baseball game at the local stadium I'm NOT going to tell people I'm going to spent their ticket revenues on paying the loan on the stadium and equipment + grounds maintenance + utility bills + employees + teams + more promotions + my paycheck + what I'm going to spend my paycheck on (online porn, viagra and ruphies, mostly).

I'm going to encourage community support for their local team, we have day and evening games, bring the kids to watch the fireworks, have a big cup of import or domestic cold beer with six kinds of hot dogs. There's a great pre-game show, free prizes for the first 500 through the gate, seventh inning games for the kids on the field, foul balls galore, blah blah blah.

I want a $5,000 camera, too.
Will you please give me... twenty bucks? Ten?
Just gimme a 64GB SDXC card instead!

If you want to invest in your future, then you do it. You've shown us absolutely no reason that we should invest in your future for you. Get a second job, or a full-time job. Before you say that's too hard, I worked full time while going to school full time for 4 years. I've operated $20,000 cameras before, so I feel quite confident that I'm ready for a AF100, too. You know what I personally own and use? A GH2. It is more than capable for the things I shoot, and we are currently in preproduction for an upcoming feature. Just because there's a more expensive camera out there doesn't mean you can't make do with something less expensive.

Before you say I'm bitter or angry or whatever, please realize I have donated to quite a few projects that I felt I'd like to see completed. You, however, have no project. You're an 18 year old kid who wants other people to pay for his "investment in his future." If you truly want to use crowdfunding, come up with a project and pitch it to people. Don't just stick a big picture of your face on a page and say invest in my future.
