Hello, reader of these forums for a week or two and first time poster here.
I'm trying to learn the basics of filmmaking and, while I already owned a DSLR (Canon T3i) from photography as a hobby, for now when I'm just learning I'd like to start with something simple like a camcorder. Certainly something easier to carry/use and hopefully that won't need so many accessories to make it functional for what I need it for.
Now the world of camcorders is new and a bit intimidating at first glance, Canon alone had something like 7 basic ones in my price range, I was hoping someone here could give me some recommendations to ease the learning curve.
I've saved almost $600, though hoping I could stay below 500.
I'd like to stay in the Canon family, but if another brand is just the hands down winner I'm not so brand loyal I couldn't be swayed.
I'm only looking for it to get me through learning the basics of filming, my first practice scene or two, and maybe a short film. If after all that I still feel a calling to keep trying filmmaking I'll switch to the DSLR and start buying all the assorted goodies for it I'll need and begin thinking of the investment in thousands not hundreds of dollars.
So regarding all this, any advise to give a newbie on a good brand/model of camcorder to start with?
