Hello from Egypt :)

Hey everyone,

This is Youssef from Egypt. Perhaps you'd be surprised that it's just my first post and I've subscribed to premiere memberships. Well actually this forum and its people deserve much more than that. Although I have not posted before, I've read a few threads here that really fascinated me. Felt this place is a real goldmine so thought it was the least I could do as a start.

I'm actually a webmaster and internet marketer who loves leaving the darn PC in his free time to do things like shooting shorts. I'm 18, written, edited and directed just two shorts so far (in arabic) and attended a workshop in Bibilotecha Alexandrina (you probably heard of it). Workshop went through writing, directing, acting (briefly), shooting, lighting (very briefly) and editing.

I work in premiere and after effects, though after effects isn't really my cup of tea. Premiere and me play together nicely, though. :)

I have so many questions with regards to lighting specifically as well as equipment and a bunch of other stuff. As a beiggner I don't expect myself to be able to help out a lot of people in here, but hope to do so in the future when I've learned more.

Welcome. You shoudl def do a short regarding the arab spring in Egypt, would be very nice to watch that.

Well maybe it's just because I'm not used to it but the keyboard shortcuts, timeline controls, even the simplest things just take time for me to do. I think it hates me too. lol. With Premiere, however, I find things much faster and it's nice to me. I love the power of AEFX and what it can do, but we just don't play together well.

Hey CHamburger. Well I'm working on something like that, however focusing on how our National Security Agency used to abuse power greatly in the old days in a short action. Still in brainstorming and writing stages though. It'll take a lot of preparation and we expect to start shooting next summer hopefully. :)

I cant help you in after effects but i always go to the adobe site where that have tuts of all their programs. The tuts are verry good so try that and youtube.

mmmm after effects....please please tell me you will film a zombie movie..egyptian zombi movie..now that would be cool!

LOL. Zombies, tombs and Pharaohs ain't the only things Egypt is about hahaha.. ;)

alien landings on the pyramids??? no? not original :( ?

Man, if I had the pyramids in front of me, I'd land some aliens. and you need to get to love after effects. It's your friend. Don't use it to edit, as it will take too long, but for titles effects and even color correction, it's a pretty useful tool.

Yeah well I do use it for color correction and credits designing and animation. I use premiere for editing.

Well it may be original but:

1) I do not live in the capital so pyramids aren't that close. They're a 5 hour drive from home. :D

2) You have absolutely NO IDEA of the amount of money and paperwork involved to just get an authorization to shoot anywhere near there. :D

So yes, I'm in Egypt, but the odds of me shooting anything there is pretty much the same as all of you guys who live overseas. Although, if I'm a producer with relatively deep pockets, I do get discounts on the costs involved to shoot there comparing to you foreigners... :P

Isn't Egypt the Hollywood of Arabic movies ?

You should give us links for your shorts, even if they are in Arabic !

Correct, Egypt is that indeed. :) I would have subtitled the arabic shorts and linked you to them. However, I see they have so many flaws so doesn't make sense to me trying to get feedback when I already see tons of problems.

Next short will be posted here, hopefully :)
