Hello! Editor from London, UK

Hi there,

My name is Phil and I'm currently working as an assistant editor at BBC Worldwide based in London, England.

My ultimate goal is to work as a feature film editor but I would just be happy to be working creatively as an editor on fiction work.

This year I have been enhancing my portfolio of work by working on short films with some friends I made through work.

I recently bought a Canon 550D and some Olympus lenses for my own work and just finished my first short.

I edit using FCP 6 at home and at work, and would like to take a course in Avid at some point.

Films I have enjoyed recently include: 'Tony Takitani', 'Once', 'The Road' and 'Whatever Works'

I'll be posting some of my work in the relevant forums.

Look forward to chatting further with you guys.

Welcome sir!

We've got a hell of a year if you're still up for cramming your portfolio. Have you ventured into "Colour grading"?

I'll be sure to check out your work once you've decided to thread.

Just checked out your work, I believe I've already spoken to somebody at BYT.

Your works awesome man, I gave my critique to Henry- He'd mentioned he'd worked with you guys, whether he passed it on or not, I'm not sure.

Hey email me at doublecrossedfilms@gmail.com with any potential projects. I'm always looking to take on more work.

I have ventured into colour grading. I've graded everything I've edited so far; quite different looks in each case.

I use Color from FCP and I monitor on a broadcast display at work.

Look forward to hearing from you!

Phil

That's great, don't be surprised if i drop you a line in the very immediate future sir.

How where your experiences with BBC?

I have friends who've taken positions in TV stations, they deemed it hugely rewarding, yet it wasn't anything as accomplished as editing.

Similar beneficially?

It's great! very flexible organisation and enough budgets to be able to train people well and have good equipment to learn on.

I assist the promo editors so it's a very specific type of editing which is why I'm looking to do other projects so that I am getting a range of experience.

Please do email. I have a window opening up in July where I won't be editing very much.

What sort of projects are you working on?

Gotta say buddy, if you hear of any work this summer then do let me know! I'm struggling to find freelance jobs before the third year of my degree starts in september.

Welcome to the forum btw ;)

It does sound extremely rewarding, i was given a tour of an editing room in the US. It's unbelievable the pallet you guys have to work with.

We're currently just running a few test shoots with our new 5D's, as we prepare to venture into bigger budgets. We'll be churning out some low-budget shorts over the next couple of months, so I'll give you a shout if it is you're just up for getting your feet wet while you're free.

The interesting part comes around five months from now, we've got a three-part French mini-feature that we hold very close to home. We've had interest for both purchase and sponsorship, with the added promise of funding. So we're generally preparing for what will be our biggest step towards the eventual transition into features.

All sounds great. Maybe I could work on some of the shorts with you as editor to sort of test each other out.

Also, I know quite a bit about the post-production DSLR workflow both from work (we have shot promos on the 5D), and my own experience.

As for the mini-feature, that sounds interesting. My goal for next year was to cut something at least 30 mins long, so this could be good for that.

What's your email?

Sounds as though we've stumbled into each-other at the right time huh?
