Happy Birthday, Mr. Poe

I had entertained the prospect last year of writing a biopic based on the life of our birthday boy, Edgar Allen Poe.

A quick search of IMDB, however, brought to my attention the fact that just such a movie was already in production with a planned release sometime in 2012. So much for that idea.

Perusing the entertainment news airwaves, it has also come to my attention that Robert Downey Jr. has accepted the starring role.

...and the director? Sylvester Stallone.

I'll forgo the usual Rocky jokes that come to mind.

Go, Edgar!

No reason you couldn't have two biopics on Poe. I think you should investigate this idea further, Charles. I for one think your take would be of more interest to me than Stallone's.

One of my favorite Poe based projects of late was Lou Reed's 2003 album The Raven. Check it out if you haven't already.

Downey's brushing up on his martial arts skills as we speak. I hear there's gonna be a killer climactic battle between Poe and Moriarty as the House of Usher collapses around them.

Oh...wait...

(and happy birthday to my favorite author)

I was able to catch Herbert West, I mean Jeffrey Combs, play Poe in his one-man show "Nevermore" in L.A. and he was absolutely fantastic.

I thought saw pics of John Cusack starring as Poe in some new film. ??

Lou Reed + Poe? Will need to check that out!

Robert Downey Jr I could get on board with, but Sylvester Stallone? What the hell?

I love Edgar Allen Poe <3 I'd definitely much rather see your take on his life Charles :)
