Greetings

Greetings all,

I am glad I found the community here.

I'm a concept artist and matte painter by trade, but I find myself slowly getting into the basics of video and micro productions. I really hope to improve and learn some techniques while still retaining the ability to be a one man show and I look forward to your insights reviews and critiques.

All the best,
Rob

I have only the utmost respect for matte painters. They are so good at what they do and get no kudos most of the time - like us sound engineers.

The best matte paintings are the ones you don't notice and talk about.

Welcome.

I do sound. I like to think I'm pretty good at it.

Do you have any examples of your work?

Here are a couple more recent pieces. Hopefully not too big for everyone's monitors.

I do have a quick question, I'm at a minor loss for where to post my rough clips for insight.

The work is heading towards a documentary/show about the rigors of a band in the indie country/rap scene. I've got several 2 minute spots that capture some moments on youtube, and I plan on slowly working everything towards a longer show.

I wouldn't consider them showcase material, as much as something I'd like to bounce off a few good ears.

If you need some insight here is the perfect place for that.

By "bounce off a few ears" do you mean you want someone to listen to them?

Ears and eyes =). Which forum would you suggest for rougher type clips? It seems like the Showcase forum has more polished work than I have.

welcome Robert!

Checked your webs site.. and .. well WOW.. thanks for joining us. I shall endeavor to pick your brain and seek not to offend.. well, no promises, I cant help it, its just who I am..

Welcome! Although I hadn't thought of using Matte paintings, I'm a big fan of their use (their use in the Original Star Wars trilogy was impressive) and admire anyone who can paint like that :)

Welcome!
Just looked up matte painting (srry, im still young and stupidly did not know).
You guys are awesome! The more you research, the more you realize and appreciate!
Have you done many films yet?

Thanks for the kind words, I am happy to answer any questions I can. In most recent years, I did efforts in Ben Button, T4, Prince of Persia, and Sorcerers Apprentice right now. Some are just set extensions, some are concept art, and some are matte painting.

Hey Rob,
I worked at an SFX studio out in western massachusetts, I was just the office pa but I saw a lot of matte painting.

We worked on Surrogates (Bruce Willis summer bomb) while I was with them.

Welcome to the forum! you can put your rough clips in the screening room subforum i believe
