Give me bullet points for a great demo reel, please?

You know, length, most dynamic sequencing, etc. :)

Also, is it kosher to mix fine arts works with commercial, or should I make two separate reels?

Thanks in advance!

Two separate reels, definately.

I don't know what your specialty, but if you are directing or acting, I'd go with a short movie (2-3mins) instead of a demo reel.
On the other hand, if VFX is your thing, go right ahead!

Thanks Jake! It would be an animation reel, so I'd definitely go with a demo.

Hey Bird, missed this one...

My 2 cents: keep it short, but show enough of the clips so that your hard work is evident. Let the work "do the work" for you. No need to get fancy with crazy editing techniques or add-on FX. Be true to the source material, be true to your voice and it will show :)

You could even present it as you animated or you animating it? Maybe make a fun animated hand-drawn intro, w/ animated titles?

Put your fingerprint on it and, I think, folks will respond to not just your work, but YOU. We don't just sell our skills but we sell our personalities as well.

That's my take on it. Good luck!

Good idea, Jeff! I think I may give that a try and thank you for the google link. :)

Thanks Paper and PositiveFuture! I have oodles of effects I've collected, and a composer. However, there is a musical piece I've found (Attribution) which I may use.

Thanks guys! :)
