cinematography GH4 ETTR

I have been reading and experimenting with different techniques, trying to find my preferred style with the GH4. I learned about GH4 users exposing to the right, and I can't seem to achieve this. Desperate for some input, I get this sad feeling of insanity every time I try to mess with it. :grumpy:

When I start to get closer to ettr, it starts to clip. In the highlights, and usually the shadows as well, then when I bring the exposure back down it guess to the left or hits neutral. Does this method require the shot to be pretty lit? Maybe have the shadows a little more lit up?

Don't mean to post an unnecessary thread, but I kind of answered my own question. I was lackinging light :P
