Why is panning so difficult to get right? Even with a fluid head?
 
Have you tried the rubber band trick?

Don't pan with your hand, put a rubber band on the head and then pull on the rubber band to create the panning motion.
 
The rubber band trick does work but still takes a while to get used to it. I have just been getting a lens with image stabilization on it and that take most shake out of the image. Wish all my lenses had it now.
 
Good points, sfoster. Maybe if I practice more it will get better.

IS would be nice. I wish that too, Robert. Alas, my stuff is all Canon and I guess their lenses with IS are all or mostly L glass? So above my pay grade. :hmm:
