For those who can never make it to a film festival

I agree with your (via my friend Bruce Campbell) definition of
independent, scoopicman.

Michael, to say that “true” independent filmmakers know where
you’re coming from is dismissive of filmmakers like me. I am a
true independent filmmaker and I don’t know where you’re coming
from. I would never say you aren’t a true independent filmmaker
simply because you don’t agree with me.

If you believe that the word “independent” is a preference - that
anyone can call any film “independent” based on their own
criteria - I respect that. But please show me the respect I
deserve by not dismissing me as not a true independent filmmaker
because my criteria is different than yours. Or I can raise more
money than every filmmaker you’ve ever worked with.

Just because I pay my cast and crew doesn’t make me less of an
independent filmmaker than those who can’t.

The budget doesn’t make a film independent. Not being connected
with a studio or a distributor does. A famous director who needs
to go outside of the studio system to make a film he has passion
for is a true independent filmmaker.

I never dismissed your film as not being independent. I don't remember saying anything about you in particular. Did I miss something? I fully respect you and your film, and I completely believe your's was of independent status...

I think I've made myself clear on all other accounts, and there is no need to continue this. You and I are going to disagree.

Indie directors--for the most part--know indie film...and we know when something is using the word indie just to drum up sales and hype. There are 'indies' and there are 'Sundance Indies'...if you know what I mean.

This is just an idea ... but there may be incentive to attend a film festival that you mention if the attendees were given a chance to vote on the films.

Even a token award for the winner might go a long way.

AMC featued inteviews and clips from the Tribeca film festive this week from NYC.

There are a few film fests that are well known. A new one may need incentives ...

cheers
