A speed drawing is technically something that you draw from a blank piece of paper to a complete image in under an hour (or something like that).

We also don't know if the rough image that's already there in this video was John's, or wasn't. Plus, it was drawn by somebody on the page before him, cause it looks like a rough sketch. So it's not like he took someone else's drawing and drew more carefully over it. He likely did that with his own rough sketch. Nothing wrong with that. That's how plenty of artists work.
