F/X help

I need some low budget ways for certian F/X for a horror movie. So any help is welcomed.

1. Blood that runs down people and splaters well.
2. Dried blood
3. Intestens
4. Fleash hanging
5. Brain matter
6. vomit

So please respond with recipes or ways to get this done.

Most of that can be done for next to nothing, and DIY'ly

1.There are a thousand different recipies for blood online. Most of them go allong the lines of corn syrup, water, red food coloring. Be sure to google plenty of them, and try them out until you find out which one you like.

2.Liquid food coloring tends to dry up and look like blood when pure. Be careful though, since coloring also stains your skin, and will stay like that for a couple of days.

3.Just go wit the real thing. Your neighborhood butcher can fix you up with cow or pork intestines.

4.Flesh can bedone with liquid latex, for thin layers and skin, but for real, teared muscle tissue, I hear that roasted beef works like a charm. Seriously. Spirit gum some meat to the real skin, and add plenty of make up.

5.Brain mater. If it's to be used by your actors (which I assume it is), boil chicken pieces, and mix them with plain yogurt and food coloring. Again, if they ar not going to be touching the stuff, nag on you butcher some more.

6.Oatmeal. 'nuff said.

Don't do this. Really... just don't. :weird:

I was thinking this. Real intestines under hot lights for hours a day, could get a bit smelly... I've heard of people filling condoms with fake blood for intestines? If not, make them with liquid latex, nose putty, modelling clay, etc, etc...

Search on YouTube for "IndieMogul". They have lots of tutorials for doing gore effects. They should help you out a lot.

It might get smelly if you do it for a long take, but if you get a couple of feet(?) and kep them in the fridge, or cooler, and replace them every couple of hours...Anything for realism!

Alterative: Sausages are made with a special skin that's filled with meat. That skin is often sold in order to make homemade sausages. If you get a hold of some of heat, and fill them with...well pretty much anything intestin-y you can get an amazing look too.

EDIT: Check this out.

I did makeup efx for years. I have made all 6 of those
things - many times.

I have used real animal parts. I do not recommend it.
You understand what is inside animal intestines don't
you? I have made intestines the way knightly suggests
many times - works great. You don't have to keep them
refrigerated or replace them every couple of hours.

Often "Anything for realism!" isn't a good idea.

thank you for the suggestions. I will concider the intestine issue with great care but considering i am in canada and it is going to be a winter shoot i may actually use the real intestines for props that the actors do not touch (good old canadian winter should keep the smell and decay down). I have looked at several blood f/x on the internet i just needed to know the best ones for oozing and the best for dried blood. One other thing is for the skin where can i pick up latex or make it.

i just needed to know the best ones for oozing and the best for dried blood.

As is often the case, the “best” is what you like. All blood
recipes are essentially the same; a clear syrup (here in the
states Kayro is the most used brand) for thickness, food color for
color (red and a touch of blue) and then something to make it
slightly more opaque. I use black coffee. Milk can be used. What
you end up as calling “best” will depend on your personal needs.
The very “best” blood is the blood you make by experimenting.

Dried blood has always been an issue. Real dried blood turns
brown. Food coloring does not decay like blood so will remain red
forever. I tend to buy pre made “dried” blood. But with some
experimenting, you should be able to get the right color. Rather
than a corn syrup, I use liquid latex for dried blood. Or even
paint. A water based paint like Tempera is excellent.

My issue with real intestines isn’t the decay factor; when full
you know what they are full of. Crap. And that stinks no matter
how cold the weather is. When you buy cleaned intestines you gotta
fill them with something. So my method is to just make them with
cotton and liquid latex.

So where do you buy liquid latex? Use Google. Type in “liquid
latex” and even your city for locations. There are makeup places
all over America that sell it - I assume Canada has a few places.
