extremely basic effect help

Hey guys,
I need to achieve a shot (actually several of these shots) where my two actors appear in both the foreground and the background of the frame. I was wondering how to do this. My first thought was to keep the camera entirely still, shoot the background part, and then the foreground part and then somehow combine them in AE. I wasn't entirely sure how to do that and I was wondering if you had any advice or tips.
Thanks a lot!

Shoot them first in the background. Then shoot them infront of a greenscreen. Then you key out the green in AE. Place the background shot behind the greenscreend shot. And you are done! =)

If the two instances of the one person don't overlap, you can do this in most basic editing softwares. No need for AEFX.

You'll need to shoot it all on a locked-down tripod, as you thought.

Shoot the far scene.

Shoot the nearer scene.

Layer the footage in your timeline.

The nearer scene: you should be able to mask off the appropriate side so that it is transparent, and the layer below shows through.
