editing Evsfx08, this one's for you

What's up bud, you helped me the last time I had a problem with sony vegas, and it appears I need your help again. I have to add a muzzle flash over 10 times in my film. I have added one with no problem, its the first one. The trouble comes when I try to add another. When I add another, the flash appears exactly as the first flash is, the placement, brightness, and angle. I looked around the web a bit and couldn't find anybody else with this problem. Any suggestions are helpful from all.

Nothing like being put on the spot, LOL! I don't add Special Effects with Vegas, I use After Effects, but to do this in Sony Vegas, the placement of subsequent flashes can be moved by clicking the Event Pan/Crop button on the muzzle flash file on the timeline (it's the one that looks like a Crop tool on the file in the timeline). Another window pops up and enlarges the overlayed video (in your case the muzzle flash), you can then move it , angle it, and scale it to where you need it. For opacity, you take your editing tool to the very top of the video file and drag it down (kinda like when you do a Fade effect only for Opacity it's done Horizontally). this should help, I just did it as I was writing this to ensure the proper steps, so if you're having trouble still, I'll try to rephrase some things. I use AE for all my VFX work because it's much more powerful and easier to use believe it or not (at least in my opinion).

There is one problem with this. Every single muzzle flash tutorial you can find is just one clip and one muzzle flash. That isn't my problem. I can easily get one muzzle flash onto a single clip if there is nothing else. The trouble comes when you try to add multiple muzzle flashes onto an eight minute clip that has probably 10 or 12 muzzle flashes. After the first flash, the rest are set to the position on the clip the previous flash I edited are at. I know this is a bit confusing when I explain it, if it is, would you like me to make a quick video and put it up on youtube to show you what is happening?

In the Vegas Studio edition, yes, all additional files you Copy and Paste will all have the same properties as the original, just like when you try to add Text. However, instead of Copy/Pasting, the original muzzle flash form the timeline, you need to import the muzzle flash file everytime (or drag it from the folder). In the Pro Vegas version, this isn't an issue. So, basically, you need to add a new file everytime if you want to change it's position, angle, and opacity. It's just a little quirk in the Studio version of Vegas.
