story Epic setting, now whats the story?

I have this epic setting that I want to set a small personal story into..

Setting:

100 years ago, strange powerful benevolent beings came from "elsewhere" and gave the human race the opportunity to transcended the physical world.

To each is offered immortality and limitless opportunity for experience, a resurrection to a perfect life.

To partake of this gift one must only recite the proper incantation and instantly you are translated to the new plane, leaving only a thin chalky dust behind.

At first millions "joined" the "Angels" but over the years fewer and fewer have chosen to translate, opting for uniqueness and tangible reality over the presumed mingling of conciseness in the Angles contrived realm.

..... what next?

Some ideas I had for stories in the above setting..

... Now, a young woman must chose between following the "moderate religion" of her parents or the love of a young radical zealot, or another path all together.

or

... Now, one man does not believe what is written about that event 100 years ago, he take a journey of discovery and what he learns will change everything forever.

..... what next?

-Make it more than 100 years ago(think thousands of years) or make everything happen in a fictional world. This way the 100 years timeframe could work.
-There are no enemies. Create some. Maybe some human group(fictional church or organization) doesn't want people to transcend there. They will do their best to destroy, hide and defend the incantation. If in charge(like world rulers), they could ban the use of this incantation and not allow people to spread the word about it or lie and deceive humans. Their motives could be the same you specified above. Or maybe they fear that, if all would ascend, there will be no one left to work for them, to sustain their well being. They could see themselves as the masters and enjoy the sense of power they posses over other humans. If all ascend to that perfect plane, who will be their subjects? They'd lose their power.
-Or create equally powerful beings, except they are evil and seek to destroy the realm you mentioned. The hero could then be either a human or one of those " Angels". They must fight to preserve that plane of existence.
-Or play Bible-like and some humans who have fallen from that perfect plane must find a way back. Maybe just find the incantation or pass through a series of adventures to change themselves in such a way that they become worthy again to ascend to that plane.

Well, that's easy. You can use both of them, and that will go well together. The young woman falls in love with this radical zealot, and leaves her religious family. That zealot does not believe what was written 100 years ago. They take a journey of discovery, and what they learn will change everything forever. There is the religious government which tries to stop them.
