Down for the Count

You mean Hollywood doesn't buy and make senseless films?

Damn. I was thinking for a minute that anyone could be a writer if they make things like "I Know Who Killed me".

How did someone sell the screenplay for Starship Troopers 2? That's one of the worst films I have ever seen.

I'm sure any of us could come up with better ideas for a film than 50% of what is on Apple Trailers right now.

I still believe, if you have a good solid story and script, and you get it into the right person's hand, you'll get a deal. Maybe not a life-changing deal, but a deal.

Anybody know what the highest selling spec script of all time is?

Last I heard it was "Basic Instinct" for $2.5 million, I believe.

The Long Kiss Goodnight by Shane Black for $4 million. He was the first writer to get $2 million for The Last Boyscout because he wrote Lethal Weapon 1 and 2.

To this day, Long Kiss Goodnight is still the biggest single up front payday for a spec screenplay. Spec Screenplay meaning, written by the writer without being hired to write it, and also up front because people like James Cameron made a lot more than that in residuals from Titanic and now Avatar, but that can take up to 10-20 years before the residuals equal $4 million or more.
