Do you need to transfer the rights if you pay someone to make you a logo?

I paid someone $300 to make a decent logo for my web series. Do I need to ask them to transfer the rights? Whats the easiest way to do this?

typically if you paid them to develop it then you own it and they don't.

Just be careful... There can be different statutes in different states/countries/etc. As you're out in CA the laws are quite comprehensive, but can also be difficult to unravel.
