Dexter?

Yeah the season usually begins in August or September, iirc.

I hope to god it's better than the last season

Season 4 was much better than season 5 I thought. Though I did like the idea of pitting a serial killer against a bogus self help guru.

I really want to start watching Dexter but I keep forgetting.

I can only have 3 TV shows on the go at any one time and given that House and Gossip Girl are off now and Entourage has just started again, there's definitely a hole in my schedule. I'm also watching The West Wing but that doesn't really count because it's not live...

I'd like to start watching Dexter.

The West Wing is very good, up until season 6 where they fired Sorkin for being too awesome.

Dexter is good too. Very well done series.

If you want to see a long running plotline that does great character development and suspension of disbelief, "The Shield" will blow your mind. People that haven't seen it think it's just an average cop show, but it's really well written over the seasons. One long story for 7 years. No resets. They are still dealing with the problems caused in the first episode, when the show reaches it's conclusion. I won't ruin it by saying how, but it's unlike anything else on television. A real study in how to write an antihero.

Totally agree. Season 4 was by far the best season. Five was the worst in my opinion. I can't really place the others in order. One and two were both awesome. Three started out weak but ended up really paying off. :)

Nick, you gotta check it out. And also True Blood (my favorite non-comedy on TV now) if you haven't yet :D

Agreed on True Blood, I was going to mention it, but strangely, I get some very negative reactions from recommending that show to people.

I liked the last season of Dexter. I mean, 4 was awesome and it's hard to follow that, but I enjoyed the last one. I second True Blood as well. My favorite thing on the air these days is probably Supernatural, but only because Pushing Daisies didn't last that long.

Just out of curiosity, Nick, what are the other shows you are watching?

Hmmm... I've never been sure about True Blood. I know it sounds superficial but I don't really find Anna Paquin an attractive on screen presence and that kind of defeats the point of watching a sexy vampire show (at least for me).

House MD
Gossip Girl
Entourage

Only one is on at the moment so I do have some time available on my TV schedule ;)

I'd say that True Blood has the sex/violence because it's required for an HBO show, and because it sells. And they do a good job with it.

That being said, I really enjoy the writing and the mysteries and how fucked up crazy the show gets. I think that's the real selling point. It is for me at least.

The newest season that's on right now might be my favorite so far. The first few episodes were a roller-coaster and now that we're getting to the meat of the story Petunia Dursley is giving a powerhouse performance.

True Blood is definitely about more than Anna Paquin being attractive.

It's the writing, it really is. Casting is perfect also. Colorist, cinematography, etc, it's all there.

And this season is good. At this point, they have me hooked on 8 different plot threads, all of them great.

And yes that blazing transformational performance coming out of someone that seemed inert at the beginning of the season blew me away. Wow. Viewers know who I'm talking about.

I hate Dexter.

I've never seen it but I hate it. Some main character must live in a
house on my street because they shoot on my street several times
a year. when they shoot the block parking. All I want to do is park
my car and go home after a days work and those damn Dexter
people have trucks and lights all up and down my street.

Just try having the president visiting all the time.

Kidding :P

You've got a nice neighborhood, btw :) (if it's the scenes I'm thinking of.)

I am a fan of Dexter too. I got it on DVD/bluray. Geat show. I like waiting tell the season is over then watching it on dvd or bluray so I can skip commercials and not have to wait for the episodes to air. This way I can watch the whole season fast.
