Deathworld: Demo goals

Things we want to accomplish via the demo-

1 Proof of concept, blockbuster film quality - Diner Scene

2 proof of concept, advanced bullet time

3 Proof of concept, Lidar reverts

4 Proof of concept, alien insects

5 Pyrran Weather shoot - ship landing

6 Jungle composite, 1 scene final

7 Demonstrate cgi abilities - atomic zoom and neurotoxin lash scene

8 Battlefield scene

What we do here will be somewhat flexible. I'm thinking that we can start from here and then see what else emerges on the screen as we go through the process and experiment.

This seems like a good goal. The battlefield will be tough depending on what we have for a budget, but I'm confident we can work it out. What are your intentions on actors, aka Jason and Kerk? I'm presuming using cheap unknowns is the plan, but if we could lock up a name talent before pitching to studios that could be a huge help.

mixing up things..

Diner scene
Lead female seated at counter
Approached by greasy intergalactic truck driver who says something like..
"Hey kitten where ya from...???"

Female lead replies...
"leave me alone please"

Trucker grabs boob

Female lead whips out a pistol from the power holster in bullet time pointed right at the face of the jerk and she says...

"let me tell you about where I come from..."

She narrates a visual flash back that covers the rest of the goals..

Boom! thats gold baby

All well and good. I also think there should be a demonstration of the ability to tell a good story, or to at least get one started, and that comes in the form of a short film, a la the short film versions of "The Raven" and "District 9", both of which successfully attracted some pretty big investors.

what he ^^ said.

Though, its not really a problem, anyone on this team could throw together a simple tight story that met all the demo requirements.

It would be COOL, and very marketable, if Harry Harrison wrote\consulted on a story just for our demo, but again, not really required.

CF you seem hot on this topic, so I vote you OWN it. That's not to say you have to WRITE it, but that you own making sure we HAVE a story... Im happy to know that SOMEONE is dealing with it.

Once upon a time there was a small village, the village had a nice shared pasture right in town, by unsaid agreement, people could pasture their sheep in the shared pasture when ever they needed to, just so long as they kept the manure picked up. It didn't take long before some of the shepherds got lazy and stopped taking there animals up into the hills to graze, rather they just let em out in the common pasture. Some of these folks just assumed someone ELSE was going to pick up the manure, nobody did, eventually the pasture was ruined and NOBODY got any benefit.

I just told that story to illustrate the "tragedy of the commons" just becuase we all KNOW something needs to be done, if nobody "owns" doing it, it likely WONT get done. So if we need a story, then SOMEONE should own making sure there is a story. Again, not to say he has to WRITE the story, just see that it is done and that progress is made.

Yeah, I'm cool with that. I was thinking the same thing, actually. In fact, it might even be wise for me to just drop the matter (as far as bringing it up is concerned), until I have something written, that I can propose. I think whatever I write should be in-line with what Nate already has in mind, though, almost a marriage with it.

word,
Though I think every effort to have Mr. Harrison consult should be made.

That said, it occurs to me in hind sight that Nate might NOT want to make a direct connection between the "short" and the feature. Say the short is great, the best thing ever, then we are successful short film makers, as cool as that is, it does put a "oh, those guys that made that cool short" sorta thing. Phase one is not about "making a short film" its about providing a technical "proof" of ability and concept to people with money who don't even like movies! So with that, maybe its NOT the right thing to do.. im so conflicted! :)

This is where the leader steps up and explains his vision for the Phase One production. hint hint..

That's essentially how I view the situation.

Absolutely, this is exactly the kind of thinking that will hand us all the brass ring. We are going to have to seek ot the opportunities that others balk before trying and get results.
Let's discuss our top five wish list for both of these characters.
Anyone?

Definitely something to think about. I'm at work at the moment do I don't have time to make a full list, but in the interest of jumpstarting the conversation I'll throw out a couple names. Joseph Gordon-Levitt for Jason and Mickey Rourke for Kerk.
