Compression HELP Urgent!

Hi Guys,

Just a really quick question, i have finished a project in Final Cut Express that comes in at over 2 hours.
I have to put it on dvd now.

I exported as an mpeg-4 movie and it comes out at around 4.9gb, is there anyway i can get it lower than that whilst keeping quality, t enable me to get the whole show on one dvd?

Or am i going to have to bite the bullet and split it in 2?

I also have mpeg streamclip if that helps?

any dvd player,

i filmed a wrestling show and the company want to sell the dvds at the next show.... so the final footage will be played on a dvd player and TV.

i exported the original file as mpeg-4 with 1280 x 720 HD settings

First off, DVD players can only work with standard definition video, not HD (720p, 1080i or 1080p). Re-exporting the video as SD will help with the file size, but you can't just burn a video file to a DVD and expect it to work - specific folder structures and file naming conventions are required for it to work properly, which is why specialist DVD burning software is needed.

As you're on a Mac, the easiest option would be to take advantage of iDVD. This will resize your video file, re-encode it to the correct format (MPEG-2 for video and AC3 for audio, for future reference) and compress it enough that it will fit on to a DVD. You'll also have the ability to add menus and autoplay features.

Thanks Chilli pie, yeah i am familair with idvd and use it a lot, i was just wondering if i could compress the original file even more.

I shot in HD and am now going to export in SD.

I have shot it HD before and iDVD has dealed with it no problem, but this one it didnt.

Thanks for your help though... this whole codec thing is a mine field!! haha

I always make DVD's from HD master video. It works fine.

What went wrong with your iDVD operation? I dont know the tool set, but the theory of operation should be the same. Just authoer you DVD pointing at the HD file as the media..

badaboom badabing.

Folks,
he wants to make a PLAYABLE DVD. Not compress a HD file so it will fit on a data DVD.

DVD authoring from HD source material is very simple and should work with out issue. The authoring program will re-encode as necessary to the MPEG2 DVD format and file structure needed.
