Compact Crane

I just watched The Devil's Backbone and listened to the director's commentary. Guillermo del Toro mentions a crane he used for some of the more complex shots. He said the crane is not available in the US but worked well in tight spaces and allowed him to move the camera quite a bit in longer takes. Does anyone know the name of this type of crane (or something similar)?

There are a lot of smaller cranes or jib arms available. On a short I worked on last year, we used a jib arm that could attach to the ball socket on top of a tripod. I think it was something like 8'-12' long. Check all the rental houses in your area & see what they have available.

Little Big Crane

The Little Big Crane was invented by Dicky Deats, Key Grip to Vilmos Zsigmond. Folds up very small. Don't know where you can rent one, but I'm sure you can search it.
