$12 milion in it's first opening week, against an estimated $100 million budget? Unless it does incredibly well in home video or international I'd say it may end up being considered a bomb.
That said - saw it last weekend and really enjoyed it. It's got some hokey moments, mostly prompted by the obviousness of the actors in some of the character makeup, but it's good overall and impressed me that anyone would still attempt a film with this kind of narrative complexity on such a large scale and mainstream level. It may well turn out that the attempt failed, at least from a commercial standpoint - but at least they took the shot.
