Surely the car won't match, and firefighters are not trained/licensed to set explosives (except fireworks). They will set it on fire, and put it out.You know, sometimes for practice firefighters will set a car a blaze just to put it out. They may just let you tape it from a safe distance. They may even be really excited about it if they know they are going to get a copy. I don't know what kind of condition the car would be in but maybe that is another option for you.
It might be better to do it via CGI, tbh.
Detonation Films is a great resource for all kinds of explosions, bullet hits, fires... pretty much anything that involves blowin' stuff up.
A lot of their hi-res footage is totally free. They also sell DVDs with a lot of extra stuff, and those are pretty cheap.
I think you'd be better off doin' this is in After Effects, than risking life & limb loading explosives into a vehicle that is soon to become shards of flying shrapnel.
Nah why would you use someone elses footage for your own film not to mention that the same explosion has probably been used in 100 other amateur flicks. Theres nothing like doing it for real but then you have to know what your doing, and if you do use CG don't use detonation films get someone to make an explosion in 3d studio max or maya.
