Car Camera Mounts

What would be the difference between these two suction mounts for mounting a Canon HV-30 to the outside of a car?

This one from ebay - for $13

compared to one from these people, for $75

I'm assuming that you would be paying for the quality and reliability of the suction? I don't think I would trust the one from ebay, I would be paranoid that it would fall off! Any advice?

As I see it, the difference is the articulation joints. Sure, the camera is only 1.2 pounds but I wouldn't strap $1000.00 to side of a moving vehicle without spring steel clips and/or three point attachment.

This is my favorite car-mount:

Not joking. I've used the into-level Sticky-Pod, and I returned to duct-tape. It's much more stable, you can avoid shake, and if you're a creative jerry-rigger, you can get the shot you want.

By the way, both of those that you've posted links to look far inferior to even the intro-level Sticky-Pod.

My opinion -- unless you spend hundreds of dollars on the top-line Sticky-Pod, I think car mounts are worthless.

I have one of these and It works great for my 7D:

Fat Gecko Double Suction Mount

Some of the B&H Reviews have guys doing 60mph for hours on end with them.

To answer the question, yes there is probably a quality difference. The cheap one looks a lot more plasticy. The second also has a ball joint where you can put it exactly where you want it, the cheap one looks like it only hinges in one direction.

The Fat Gecko is great though.

It's in the ball-joints where the weakness lies, though. No matter how tight the grip, even with a light camera, you're gonna get some bounce and jiggle. Only way I see it, to avoid any bounce, is if you've got a triangulated system of support. Something like this:
