Hi Everyone.

Thought I'd take my first opportunity to post on Indietalk.com by showing you all an example of some of our production company's previous narrative work in the hope of creating a discussion and generating some feedback.

I should note that even though this was produced only a year ago, "Brad In A Bottle" served as a valuable lesson and we were much better for it the second time around for our next short "Kitchen Sink Drama" (http://facebook.com/ksdrama) which is currently being very, very well received. All in all, there is still something in this one for you to enjoy!

Production Details:

Brad (Spencer McLaren) is a lonely hydrophobic water salesman who has lived a life in the solitude of hotel rooms and airport waiting lounges. Late one night a surprise appears in the form of Rachel (Kate Bell) who teaches Brad a valuable lesson about life and relationships.

great fil. i was very impressed,. i could see this winning tons of awards. i worked with the famous producer Vincent Gorno so I know what I'm talking about.
 
You worked on that, Darty? Awesome. :cool:

I think the colorist may have gone a bit overboard when the two are goin' at it... she's purple! :huh:

Thought it was great, overall. Left me wanting to know more about Brad, in particular.

What was the budget, if you don't mind? Also, why the use of three different cameras? Childhood flashbacks were on the 16mm, yes?

Thanks for the feedback! And all on board. Reasons for three formats; 16mm - firstly, yes to set the tone of the period, but also secondly so our DP could have more experience on the format. Canon 5D - was the underwater shots, it was the most cost effective solution for what we needed, you can buy waterproof bags from Hong Kong for about $160. Red MX - we tested the new sensor, but obviously was also the best option for our budget.

Glad you liked the film - and yes Kate's a great girl. Loved having Darty on set too!

Didn't have much luck on the festival circuit, hence why its online now. Will look at what else is around but I think we just wanted to have people be able to watch the film now and get feedback where and when we could. Though we have a pretty good idea of what is wrong with it - and what we did wrong during the shoot.

Re: the budget question - we spent about $15K all up. We were paying actors and our first days shooting was a bit ridiculous with the overtime we planned to do. With loadings and 1.5 time and double time they ended up being quite costly, though money well spent I believe. Love working with professional actors.
 
I shared the link to the film via Facebook. Anyways, this short was worth sharing. Keep on making films. You guys got the talent to make it.
