BEST way to start off?

Hello guys, this is Prithvi,16 years, passionate about films and an aspiring director.
Well,I 'm planning to start off with a short film(umm planning,it should'nt exceed 10 mins)
So guys,it would be really helpful if any one of you would suggest few idea's to build a script on,as I'm just dying for idea's. :)

I've not made anything yet, I know, sucks right? :P
But I have idea, I just need to write them (I started one today). What you need to do is get inspired. I know it sounds like a vague thing to do, but think about it - What you WANT to write about, plot wise, thematically, it's all about doing what you want.
The first idea that comes into your head - whatever it is, post it here to get critique on the premise :)

For me, my ideas for scripts just pop in my head randomly at times. I do a lot of thinking and with the added help of some good music, it helps me figure out a basic plot then i expand from there. Find what helps you become creative :)

worth that imagination muscle and you'll get plenty of ideas.

You can start from a few different places..

Invent a character and make a story for him\her.
Invent a story and fill in with characters
Invent a camera shot or great image, and create story and characters to justify that shot.
...
there are more, but you get the idea. Dont try and think of the "finished thing" just get a line of dialogue or story point etc... and see where it takes you.

As this is your first effort, Id suggest scaling down to 2 or 3 minutes. 10 minutes seems short, but consider that average shot length on screen is less than 10 seconds. 10 minutes of finished movie is a lot of work.

You can tell a lot of story in just a few minutes.
good luck

All the above advice is pretty good:

Dude, you're in India. Just walk out the door and look at the street life. Relax and drift, trust your luck til something hits. There's got to be a thousand stories to fire your imagination. Then make sure you have a solid structure by following the guidelines above...

if youre really stuck and just want to get started, you could always take a pre existing template for a film with well defined parameters and film your own

for example:
zombie movie
slasher movie
heist movie

or of course, a parody

hope this may help :)

Ideas pop in my head in that brief moment between being awake and asleep.
Plot events, and solutions to conflicts in a script do so too.
It's just like inception, get a basic idea, build a structure around it. Then, with time, your subconcious will gestate the idea, and give back the links between those events.

It's not really polite at all, but eavesdrop on conversations. I often go out to collect ambient sounds to add to my sound library. The mic is hidden and I use in-ear headphones so I look like everyone else listening to an iPod. However, sometimes I'm listening to conversations; I'm not really being nosy, but I'm listening to how people actually speak with one another in order to expand my dialog editing skills. But I do manage to hear some very interesting stories; too bad I'm not a writer!

You can also go out and just converse with people. A few weeks ago I had a great conversation with a molecular biologist, of all things. Go to a retirement home, volunteer someplace - there's lots of interesting people out there with incredible experiences.

When I was a teenager I spent two summers as the mate aboard a charter fishing boat. We usually left the dock at 6am and it would take an hour or two to get to the fishing grounds. I met all kinds of fantastic people and heard the most amazing tales. My fascination with WWII began then, as the boat was often chartered by veterans groups.
