Anyone Get Costumes From Wholesalers?

I'm looking to deal with wholesalers for costume supplies in the future, since I have to get like 6 copies of costumes for my cast doing stunts and since I'm doing military stuff in space where the actors will be in uniforms, I think a wholesaler makes sense.

Has anyone worked with wholesalers for costumes before?

I've worked with clothing wholesalers before. Wholesale generally means you plan on reselling them. Also, most wholesalers have minimum orders. I think outside of samples, the lowest minimum I saw was 24. Many were in the 100's or 1000's. Not everyone is the same though.

A better bet may be to contact a retailer and ask for a bulk discount. Heck, offer them credit for it, you never know

I bought 7 navy boiler suits once for a theatre production. I got a discount for the bulk order, but I doubt many wholesalers will ship for that number. You're probably better off trying to strike a deal with an army surplus shop, or whatever.

Here in California you must have a resellers license to shop from
wholesalers - as Paul said, they sell in bulk for resale. And bulk
isn’t usually six it’s more like 100.

But you would be crazy to not try. Even if no one here has ever
done it, you need to give it a shot.

I had to get a vendor's license with the state here in NY to collect taxes with the state to sell DVDs. So, maybe that's enough. I've got to try because I have to find ways to save money to survive as a small potato filmmaker.
