Wow, that's quite ingenius. Very cool.

I've never tried making anything like that, but I did try smearing vaseline around a lens to degrade the image that way. (Saw a BTS on The Saddest Music in the World, which did that.) Didn't turn out too well. I guess these kinds of things take a lot of practise to get just right.

Interesting - that's quite a cool effect.

I recently tested a lens that the rental hosue called the 'mesmeriser' which is very different - it's a modified 300mm Canon EF lens which has been PL mounted, and then there's a wheel on the side of it that you can turn and the image sort of... spins, I guess... It's really difficult to explain but it's a cool effect. Very early 90's sitcom.

I considered trying out a "pinwide" for a short film recently with tons of glidecam work. The director wanted to be able to use selective focus though, so we went a different route.

Looks like they basically did the same thing, but a little DIY and testing different glass inserts.
