editing another effect topic creating a flock of birds.

So i have a scene i really want and it involves the character looking up and a flock of birds scattering(because he swung his axe into a tree causing them to scatter) but i want the view of the birds to by as if your looking under them seeing them all fly up and scatter throughout the frame, only has to last maybe 3 -5 seconds. Any ideas.

Animate a few different types of flapping and put it into a particle system like particular, generate as many as you need to look right! Messing with wind and gravity and random settings will help it be really organic,

Sound of flapping wings will sell the effect. Don't underestimate the sound. I animated a black box in after effect to look like a train and added awesome train sound to it- audience hear a train and so their eyes seeing a train. Psychology is an interesting thing and filmmakers using it in their advantage :)

If u really want to go hardcore - u need to find chroma keyed bird.

Its pretty advanced AE stuff...

I did this effect (razors flocking) using AE.

It involves creating several different "bird (razors) animations"
Time staggering them on a single comp
then using that comp as a particle with Particle World or Particular
setting the repeat to something that I cant recall!

EDIT: Its similar technique to creating crowds with particular and After Effects..
