Am I one the right path?

My career choice is of course media, I'd love to work in the media world, could any industry professionals here tell me if I'm on the right path here?

I'm 17 from England, in my first year (Of 2) of college studying for an Extended National Diploma in Media Studies, I know this alone will not get me in the media industry (My classmates beg to differ, but that's their problem)

The last year I've been doing voluntary work for the Media Wing of my Local Council, Last year I recorded the official documentary for the refurbishment of a council building and helped organise an event involving dance groups and talent acts and also recorded that, there's many more Media Projects coming up I'm involved in.

I'm also a voluntary assisstant presenter at my local Hospital Radio Station, all these are applicable to go onto my CV (Accompanied by certificates) and of course, by the time I leave college I'll have a healthy list of independent films I've created to show what I can do.

For the summer holidays a friend of my father may give me some work experience in his TV production company also.

Is this the way in? even to get my foot in the door? are there any reccomendations? Is this a good way to go about getting into the industry?

Thank you

ANY experience that gives you a chance at working in the field you want to (and this sounds like a nice one), I would do it.

You ask is this the right path; this is *A*, there are others, but there is no "surefire way" of getting into the industry right away. The face you are pondering these questions is a good step, you aren't just saying "I've got my diploma, places will beg for me to work for them!"-you realise this could be a long path-more could learn from your maturity :)

Getting experience is key with education-you will find (and probably are finding) that the way things are done in school is not always the way it's done in the "real world" so to speak.

Plus, go with what you feel-if you feel comfortable with it yourself, then yes, this is *A* right path, don't limit yourself.

There are no negatives to this situation-just your comfort level-if it feels good, then yes it is *A* right path for you. Besides, who knows what future contacts come out of this?

Wish I was your age again.....I'm just a tad jealous ;). Enjoy, and grab it while you can :)

Sounds as if you may already have your foot in the door.

You are taking a very valid and productive path...lots of work, lots of projects, coupled with traditional education.
