after effects tutorial

hey everyone,
i JUST got after effects and have no clue how to use it. my goal is to create a nice gunshot scene where a guy gets shot and there's a lot of blood, but i know i'm far away from that. i need to learn how to use it.

does anyone know of any good tutorials to help me get started?

Adobe prints the "Classroom In A Book" series for Adobe products. It contains a CD/DVD with correlating video clips to work along with. It's actually pretty dull, but it does the job.

You might also want to see if your local Community College offers courses for it. I've taken AE classes twice over the past few years, doing the night-school thing.
