I recently completed the 70 second Tropfest Micro/Mobli competition which was to make a film under 70 seconds with audible laughter and submit through the Mobli iOS app.

Shot it in one night and edited over a few days with Premiere and bits of After Effects. Used a t3i with a Zoom h4n with Rode NTG-2 attached.

Now the story is a little 'interesting'. For this film I focused much more on cinematography and lighting than on story.

Thoughts/comments/advice for all aspects of film making appreciated.

I like it. The cinematography and lighting are both good. Even better, the story is indeed quite good and interesting for a 70 second short. Nice job. =)
 
I wish you'd been able to nail a solid story in that 70 secs. It's very doable.

Otherwise, looks great for a timed challenge. Good to see your regular big guy back, too. :lol:
 
I just discovered the most amazing thing! I've become a finalist for this competition! :o :D one of five.

Now the audience vote segment you have to 'love' the video within the app. So if anyone could please follow this link and like it for me so that I have a chance of getting the audience award too :)
This forum has helped me so much. If I hadn't learnt al I had from here about lenses and lighting and whatnot I never would hav e produced this video to the quality that I think it is :) in particular would like to thank Jax_rox and ZenSteve!

I liked it, the ending could have been exaggerated, and even all you'd've needed for that was some sound design.

I thought I also noticed some drastic lighting changes between shots...check on that, maybe color correction or maybe very different colored lighting.

Last note: could've been less cutting, maybe land on shots for longer.

Nicely done, however, good luck in the finals!
 
Sadly it was announced last week (I think...everything is going quickly lately) and I was not the winner.

The main light didnt move and nor did the actors but I had a very faint white/blue kind of light for the other side of the actors as their faces were too dark. ( I only had one redhead to work with and the small LED kight). So depending on the shot that light was moved slightly so that may have been what you're noticing?

If I was editing it again there is only one angle cut that I would change, the rest for me at least worked.
