    Director+Producer=Good Movie????

This is Great All of this thread is great. I would add that the Director directs the artistic side of the production and the Producer directs the production. That's why the producer gets the "Best Picture" Academy Award.

    Director+Producer=Good Movie????

Haven't been around for sometime. Dropped by and I noticed hey there is nothing in the directing thread. So I hoped we could start a good discussion. I have been around some form of Production (mainly TV) my entire life. My Father was and still is in the business. From a cub reporter on a...

    Haven't Been Around

Thanks for the support Poke, we have talked about what you didn't like and I can see the wisdom. We all can improve on technique and story, to my knowledeg there are very few perfect films and God knows I don't think "Redemption" is perfect. So I take my lumps and hopefully get better.

    watch Redemption-The Final Trailer

Interesting points, I'd be curious what you think of the film. Trailers are tough mainly becuase the are marketing tools, used to perk interest, if they do that they are effective. If they don't, then they aren't, I am guessing that you wouldn't be intrested in seeing the film based on the...

    Know Your Movie

Know the Marketplace Genre Okay Filmjumper that leads me right into genre and how it can make or break you. First to address “Redemption” and the profit margin, we have to classify it as an urban drama with no “Stars” Brian White is up and coming but at the time he really hadn’t done a lot. I...

    watch Redemption-The Final Trailer

Some of you that have been through the feature loop know that you can often go through the marketing loop with the film. For "Redemption" there are three trailers one that was cut before the film was completed, one that Artisan cut for the film, and the final one that I did for my sales agent. I...

    Festival Experience

I have been very fortunate as a filmmaker although "Redemption" only got into two festivals they both really treated us very well. ReelWorld was the best flying to Toronto, and being treted like a celeb made up for the fact that we deidn't get into the others. If you get the chace check out the...

    Know Your Movie

Since I have been back to indietalk.com I noticed this forum on distribution. So I decided that perhaps I could contribute some information that would help my fellow filmmakers in their quest to make films that actually see the light of day. Many of you know my qualifications to speak on this...

what exactly does a 1st AD do?

Even though this is an older thread I thought I would throw in a couple of things, pretty much everything that was said was true. Under the Director decision line dependeing on the type of production it can be the Producers discretion generally the 1AD is stradilling the line. For example for...

It's official...critics hate my movie as much as everyone else who's watched it..

I wouldn't worry, at least you got some reviews. I got some bad ones for "Redemption" and some good ones, at the end of the day to my thinking it's how you feel about it and to learn from them. Just keeping making them with a good heart and a clear head. Peace, Redemption

    Sony 24p HD

HD has been good to Me My first film was shoot on HD and I believe it was the right choice. Being a first time director it was a great tool. One, with the 16:9 I saw exactly what I was shooting, two I didn't worry about my shooting ratio so much because HD tape is cheap (in comparison to film)...
